REPORT: Why Nuggets Unlikely to Trade Michael Porter Jr. Despite Proposed Spurs Deal…

According to NBA insider Harrison Wind of DNVR Sports, the Denver Nuggets have no intentions of trading Michael Porter Jr.

Porter Jr. is set to earn $35.9 million next season.

In the most recent season, Porter Jr. played 81 games, averaging 16.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 1.5 assists, with shooting percentages of 48.4% from the field, 39.7% from three-point range, and 83.6% from the free-throw line.

Despite winning the NBA championship last year against the Miami Heat in five games, the Nuggets were eliminated in the second round of this year’s playoffs by the Minnesota Timberwolves in seven games.

During the 2024 playoffs, Porter Jr. averaged 15.8 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 1.1 assists over 12 games against the Los Angeles Lakers and Timberwolves.

Drafted 14th overall by the Nuggets in the 2018 NBA Draft, Porter Jr. has career averages of 15.7 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 1.2 assists.

If the Nuggets do reconsider and decide to trade Porter Jr., Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report suggested a possible trade scenario involving the San Antonio Spurs.

Proposed trade:
– Denver Nuggets receive: Forward Keldon Johnson, Point Guard Tre Jones, Forward/Center Zach Collins
– San Antonio Spurs receive: Forward Michael Porter Jr., Forward/Center Zeke Nnaji, 2024 first-round pick (No. 28 overall)

Swartz noted that the Spurs would acquire the best player in the trade and could absorb Porter’s contract while still maintaining cap space. Porter’s three-point shooting could significantly improve the Spurs, who ranked 28th in three-point accuracy at 34.7% this season.

Porter Jr. has become a dependable player after missing his entire rookie season due to a back injury. He will turn 26 in June and is considered one of the NBA’s top shooters and scorers.
