REPORT: Why Jayson Tatum is the Only Celtics Star to Earn All-NBA Honors…

Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum has once again made the All-NBA First Team, marking his third consecutive season with this honor. However, unlike last year, Tatum’s teammate Jaylen Brown did not join him in receiving All-NBA recognition.

Tatum secured his place on the First Team, while Brown narrowly missed the All-NBA Third Team, falling short by just 20 points to Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker.

Despite a slight dip in his scoring this season due to the addition of Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday, Tatum, 26, still averaged 26.9 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 4.9 assists per game. This follows his impressive 30.1 points per game during the 2022-23 season. He shares the First Team honors with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (Oklahoma City Thunder), Nikola Jokic (Denver Nuggets), Luka Doncic (Dallas Mavericks), and Giannis Antetokounmpo (Milwaukee Bucks).

Brown’s performance also saw a decline from the previous season, averaging 23 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game. Last year, his All-NBA Second Team selection led to him securing the biggest contract in NBA history at that time. This season, missing out on the All-NBA status was less impactful for Brown, who also did not receive an All-NBA Defensive nod despite strong support from teammate Derrick White.

Both Tatum and Brown are focused on a greater goal: winning an NBA title. Brown played a crucial role in the Celtics’ Game 1 victory in the Eastern Conference finals by hitting a game-tying 3-pointer to force overtime.

The All-NBA Second Team includes Jalen Brunson (New York Knicks), Anthony Edwards (Minnesota Timberwolves), Kevin Durant (Phoenix Suns), Kawhi Leonard (Los Angeles Clippers), and Anthony Davis (Los Angeles Lakers). The Third Team features Devin Booker, LeBron James (Los Angeles Lakers), Stephen Curry (Golden State Warriors), Domantas Sabonis (Sacramento Kings), and Tyrese Haliburton (Indiana Pacers).
