“It’s Pathetic” – All Black Legend Discusses Blues’ Major Setback Ahead of Highlanders Clash…

Former All Black Reacts to ‘Huge Loss’ of Blues’ Potential Test Bolter…

All Blacks legend Mils Muliaina believes the Blues will triumph over the Highlanders this weekend, but he acknowledges the significant setback of losing Zarn Sullivan to injury.

Sullivan, 23, had just returned from a six-week injury break to play against the Hurricanes last Saturday when he sustained another knee injury midway through the first half at Eden Park. The injury occurred without contact from any defenders, prompting immediate attention from the Blues’ medical team.

In a poignant moment, Hurricanes centre Bailyn Sullivan momentarily stepped away from his team to support his injured brother. Zarn Sullivan was forced off the field after 23 minutes, with the Blues later confirming he had suffered a meniscus tear, sidelining him for at least a month.

Despite this, the Blues managed to secure a win against the Hurricanes in a thrilling top-of-the-table clash. They now face the Highlanders without Sullivan, a challenge noted by Muliaina on Stan Sport’s The Call Up. Muliaina highlighted Sullivan’s critical role, especially his left-foot kicking that relieved pressure on Harry Plummer.

“This is a massive loss, but we’ve seen what Cole Forbes can do,” Muliaina said. “It’s unfortunate for Zarn, who likely would have been considered for higher honours. However, the Blues have a strong squad and are managing their players well.”

Coach Vern Cotter has made six changes to the starting lineup that defeated the Hurricanes, including promoting Cole Forbes to fullback. Other changes include Kurt Eklund, Laghlan McWhannell, Adrian Choat, Sam Nock, and Corey Evans, with first five Stephen Perofeta returning on the bench.

The Blues will face a determined Highlanders team vying for playoff qualification. The Highlanders, fresh off a narrow victory against the Crusaders, will rely on rising star Cam Millar, who scored 21 points in the first half of their last match.

Muliaina noted the importance of the Highlanders’ consistency and their recent momentum, saying, “Cameron Millar and (Folau) Fakatava’s partnership is crucial. The Highlanders have a settled side and are coming off significant wins. They know they have a chance to defeat the Blues in Auckland.”
