Breaking: Commanders Sign WR Damiere Byrdto Active Roster…

The Washington Commanders have added veteran wide receiver Damiere Byrd to their active roster.

Byrd, who entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent from South Carolina, has played for eight seasons. Over 76 games, including 28 starts, he has caught 63.1% of his targets, amassing 1,689 yards and seven touchdowns on 130 receptions. His last two seasons were with the Atlanta Falcons, where he recorded 13 receptions for 268 yards and two touchdowns.

In college, Byrd played for the South Carolina Gamecocks, racking up 1,265 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns. His standout year was 2013, with 33 catches for 575 yards, averaging 17.4 yards per catch.

Byrd joined the NFL with the Carolina Panthers in 2015, initially on the practice squad. He earned his first start in 2017, setting a franchise record with a 103-yard kickoff return touchdown, the team’s first since 2011.

After a year with the Arizona Cardinals, Byrd signed with the New England Patriots. During his time with the Patriots, he had his most productive season, making 14 starts and finishing second on the team with 604 yards on 47 receptions.
