NFL Contract Details: Eagles’ A.J. Brown Deal,Buccaneers’ Gholston Benefits from Veteran Salary, Steelers Restructure Highsmith…

The Eagles have made A.J. Brown the highest-paid NFL wide receiver, with a contract that includes a unique detail: a void year at the end, carrying a hefty $53.52 million cap hit. This tactic, also used in other Eagles’ contracts like Jalen Hurts ($97.55 million) and DeVonta Smith ($35.78 million), gives the team financial flexibility. However, this doesn’t mean they’ll ever pay such high amounts for players not on the team; instead, they can strategically cut players for cap savings, like being able to cut Brown in 2027 for more savings than the dead money loss.

In other NFL contract news:

– The Buccaneers’ deal with William Gholston uses the veteran salary benefit, giving him a minimum $1.21 million base salary that counts for only $1.15 million against the cap. He can also earn a $167.5K active roster bonus in Week 1.

– The Texans signed Jacob Phillips to a one-year, $1.15 million contract, with a $1.06 million base salary and a $45K signing bonus. He can earn up to $50K in per-game active roster bonuses.

– The Steelers restructured Alex Highsmith’s contract, converting $8.75 million of his 2024 base salary into a signing bonus. They also added a void year to his four-year, $68 million deal, clearing $7 million in cap space.
