REPORT: Rangers Drops Patthetic Updates on Max Scherzer’s Injury Setback and Carson Coleman’s Uncertain Future…

The Rangers’ star pitcher, Max Scherzer, continues to face challenges with nerve irritation in his thumb, further delaying his return to the field after offseason back surgery.

Initially expected to come back early in May, his comeback was halted by discomfort in his thumb, initially thought to be ligament inflammation but now identified as nerve irritation.

However, a recent cortisone injection in his neck has provided some relief, allowing him to resume light activities like playing catch. If his progress continues, there’s hope he could gradually increase his workload soon.

Scherzer’s return would be a huge lift for the Rangers’ rotation, which has been plagued by injuries to several key pitchers. While other players have stepped up admirably, Scherzer’s track record as an eight-time All-Star and three-time Cy Young winner makes his return eagerly anticipated. Despite some struggles in 2023, his performance with the Rangers late in the season showed promise.

On a less positive note, pitcher Carson Coleman’s prospects for the 2024 season look bleak. He’s unlikely to pitch at all due to Tommy John surgery, meaning he won’t fulfill the requirement to spend 90 days on the Rangers’ active roster. This extends his Rule 5 status into the 2025 season. Nonetheless, if he can recover fully, he could be a valuable asset for the team in the future, given his impressive performance with the Yankees in 2022.
