Sion James, a highly-regarded transfer from Tulane, has made the decision to join the Duke Blue Devils basketball program. James, a talented shooting guard standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing 210 pounds, has opted to withdraw from the 2024 NBA Draft in favor of committing to Duke, under the coaching of Jon Scheyer.
Explaining his choice, James emphasized Duke’s reputation for fostering winning environments and the opportunity to showcase his skills on the big stage of college basketball. He expressed excitement about working with a skilled coaching staff and playing alongside some of the nation’s top talents.
. “I chose Duke because it gives me a chance to impact winning and compete under the brightest lights in college basketball,” said James.
During his time at Tulane, James proved his capabilities, averaging 14.0 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game while maintaining a solid shooting percentage from beyond the arc. His addition strengthens Duke’s backcourt, providing size, strength, and versatility.
James becomes the ninth addition to Duke’s 2024-25 roster, which is undergoing significant transformation with a mix of incoming freshmen and experienced transfers. His arrival underscores Duke’s strategy of blending youthful talent with seasoned players to ensure competitiveness in college basketball’s evolving landscape.
Known for his physicality and scoring ability, James is expected to contribute by hitting perimeter shots, driving to the basket, and drawing fouls.
