Breaking: Pat Riley Shoots down Idea of Jimmy Butler Trade, Adds They Have not Yet Discussed Contract Extension…

Miami Heat President Pat Riley has dismissed the notion of trading Jimmy Butler this offseason, despite the player’s potential contract extension looming. Butler, who is expected to seek a max extension worth approximately $113 million, has not yet discussed his future with the team. Riley emphasized that the Heat are not considering an extension until next summer, citing Butler’s age (he will turn 35 before the next season) and his injury history since joining the Heat.

Riley’s firm stance on Butler’s trade comes after a 40-minute media session where Butler was a focal point. Riley admitted that the team has not internally discussed a contract extension for Butler and emphasized the need to evaluate the commitment carefully, especially considering Butler’s injury history.

The Heat president expressed concern about committing significant resources to a player who may not be available consistently. The team has struggled with player availability, using 37 different starting lineups and having 18 players start games last season. Only Bam Adebayo was a consistent presence in the core lineup.

Riley also addressed recent comments from Butler, who criticized other teams’ performances. Riley advised Butler to refrain from such comments unless he is actively playing against those teams.

Despite the contract uncertainty, the Heat are expected to pursue another star player this offseason. However, if Butler’s contract situation remains unresolved, it could complicate the team’s plans.
