In comparison to the extensive roster overhaul in 2022, there’s less work to be done for the front office. With key positions filled through free agency and the draft, attention now turns to shoring up the offensive and defensive lines, typical needs for most NFL teams.
Given the Bears’ limited cap space, they’re unlikely to pursue big-name signings. Instead, they’ll target free agents who can provide value without breaking the bank. Here are five potential targets:
1. Rasheem Green – Defensive End: Green, known for his special teams contributions, could reunite with the Bears for a year, adding depth to the defensive line.
2. Phil Haynes – Guard: Despite injury concerns, Haynes could bolster competition for interior depth positions and assist in implementing the new offensive scheme under coordinator Shane Waldron, whom he worked with in Seattle.
3. Linval Joseph – Defensive Tackle: While not at his prime, Joseph’s experience could be valuable for the thin defensive tackle group, providing mentorship for younger players like Gervon Dexter.
4. Yannick Ngakoue – Defensive End: Ngakoue, if medically cleared, might return to the Bears to boost the pass rush, alleviating pressure on rookie Austin Booker.
5. Rakeem Nunez-Roches – Defensive Tackle: With versatility across multiple positions and prior familiarity with Poles from their time in Kansas City, Nunez-Roches could offer depth and experience to the defensive line.
By targeting these free agents, the Bears aim to reinforce their roster efficiently within their financial constraints.
