Eddie Jackson Says Farewell to Chicago Bears
In February, the Bears bid farewell to Eddie Jackson, the experienced safety and former fourth-round draft pick.
The Chicago Bears made some tough calls at the start of the offseason, parting ways with offensive lineman Cody Whitehair and safety Eddie Jackson in February.
While these moves were anticipated as part of the team’s restructuring for the upcoming 2024 season, they marked the conclusion of a significant chapter, during which Jackson played a pivotal role. Selected in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft, Jackson earned recognition as a first-team All-Pro and made two Pro Bowl appearances.
Expressing his sentiments on social media on Tuesday evening, Jackson shared a heartfelt message acknowledging the Windy City, its fans, and the Bears organization.
“Reflecting on my journey, it’s surreal to realize it’s been seven seasons in Chicago. I’m deeply grateful to every member of the Bears family for their unwavering passion and loyalty; it’s what makes this city truly special,” wrote Jackson.

In his message, Jackson also extended his gratitude to the McCaskey Family and the Bears organization.
Despite a decline in performance over the years, Jackson remained a key figure in the Bears’ defense and exceeded expectations set by his draft position. Drafting a player in the fourth round who not only starts as a rookie but maintains a significant role for multiple seasons is considered a success for both player and team.
Throughout his tenure with the Bears, the former Alabama Crimson Tide safety amassed impressive statistics, including 459 combined tackles, 44 pass deflections, 15 interceptions, 14 tackles for loss, 10 forced fumbles, and three defensive touchdowns.
In his final season with the Bears, Jackson recorded 37 combined tackles, five pass deflections, and one interception. He allowed a completion percentage of 60% on targets, a pass rating of 120.6 when targeted, and conceded three touchdowns.
To fill the void left by Jackson, the Bears signed veteran Kevin Byard, who previously played for the Tennessee Titans and Philadelphia Eagles. While Jackson is currently without a team, it’s likely that he will find a new opportunity following the draft and as teams prepare for training camp.
