Updates: Portsmouth Chief Sends a ‘Cryptic Message’ to Clubs’ Medical Team Amid Recent Injury Updates…

Portsmouth’s top executive, Andy Cullen, has commended the performance of the newly revamped medical and sports science team, expressing satisfaction despite the team’s unfortunate run of injuries throughout the season.

Cullen praised the dedication and professionalism of the new team, which was assembled over the summer following the departure of key personnel, including head physio Bobby Bacic, head of sports science Jeff Lewis, and first-team physio Jack Hughes, who left amid reported tensions with former head coach Danny Cowley.

In response, Max Whittingham, previously from the Academy, stepped up as strength and conditioning coach, with Tom Nation and Paul Cremin temporarily filling in as physios. The team was further bolstered in August by the appointment of Steve Hard as head of medical, along with George Bell and Matt Best.

Despite the persistent string of serious injuries impacting the team’s performance, Cullen expressed confidence in the newcomers, emphasizing their meticulous recruitment process. He highlighted the unusually high number of long-term impact injuries and commended the players for their resilience during rehabilitation.

Reflecting on the recruitment process, Cullen acknowledged the challenge of rebuilding the medical team but expressed optimism in the opportunity for renewal. He emphasized the importance of player confidence in the medical staff and lauded Hard’s extensive experience, including his tenure at Bournemouth, where he contributed to the club’s rise to the Premier League.

Cullen also credited the persuasive efforts to bring Hard into the professional football environment and highlighted his positive impression of the club’s vision when meeting with key figures.
