Breaking: Chiefs $25 Million Starter Predicted to Sign Contract With Falcons …

Former Chiefs Defensive End Predicted to Sign with Falcons
The Kansas City Chiefs have been known for their formidable defense, a key factor in their consecutive Super Bowl wins. Keeping their core players is vital for a potential third championship run.

Despite securing Chris Jones with a hefty five-year, $158.57 million extension, their options were limited. However, trading L’Jarius Sneed to the Titans freed up an extra $19.8 million.

Mike Danna, a defensive end and a free agent, was expected to be their top target after Sneed’s trade, but he remains unsigned. Projections suggest he could land a three-year, $24.75 million contract.

Analyst Brad Spielberger from Pro Football Focus sees Danna as a good fit for the Atlanta Falcons in the AFC South. Spielberger praised Danna’s consistency, gap control, and ability to pressure quarterbacks, despite lacking elite speed off the line. In the 2023 season, Danna showed improvement in disengaging from blockers and recorded 6.5 sacks, 50 tackles, and 3 passes defensed.

While NFL insider Bill Barnwell didn’t mention Danna specifically, he advised the Falcons to add a veteran edge rusher, highlighting the team’s focus on offensive additions over defense this offseason.

Despite interest from other teams, the Chiefs remain open to bringing Danna back. Justin Churchill from AtoZ Sports emphasized Danna’s growth potential and warned the Chiefs about losing a versatile pass rusher if they delay re-signing him. Mike Dugar from The Athletic noted mutual interest between Danna and the Chiefs, indicating a possible return.

Retaining Danna would provide the Chiefs with two strong starting defensive ends, complementing George Karlaftis. Felix Anudike-Uzomah and Charles Omenhihu would add depth at the position, with Omenhihu recovering from a knee injury.
