Breaking: Bears GM Ryan Poles to Skip Drake Maye’s Pro Day Amid Caleb Williams Buzz…

The Chicago Bears are actively scouting the top quarterback prospects for the 2024 NFL draft, but general manager Ryan Poles will not be attending Drake Maye’s pro day in North Carolina amid speculation about drafting Caleb Williams. Despite the buzz around Williams, the Bears are committed to evaluating all quarterback prospects. Poles recently attended J.J. McCarthy’s pro day in Michigan and plans to attend LSU’s pro day to observe Jayden Daniels.

Poles explained that they want to continue evaluating all quarterbacks to gain clarity. However, he will miss Maye’s pro day due to scheduling conflicts, leaving the evaluation to his executives and quarterbacks coach Kerry Joseph. Maye is the No. 2 quarterback prospect according to Daniel Jeremiah’s rankings, raising questions about Poles’ absence.

One possible reason for Poles’ absence is that the Bears may plan to host Maye for a top-30 visit at Halas Hall. While there are no reports confirming this, it could explain why Poles chose not to attend Maye’s pro day. Additionally, Poles may believe his time is better spent preparing for the next phase of scouting, such as finalizing the 30 prospects for official pre-draft visits.

Another factor could be the Bears’ interest in Williams, with Poles indicating positive feedback from teammates and staff about his leadership. However, the Bears are awaiting Williams’ medical results before making a final decision. Williams declined medical testing at the NFL Combine, which is uncommon but not unheard of. If Williams passes their medical evaluations, the Bears could decide on him as early as next week.
