Portsmouth Manager Calls for Enhanced Performance from January Signing…
Since his arrival at Portsmouth on loan from Brentford during the January transfer window, Myles Peart-Harris has exhibited flashes of brilliance, though not consistently.
Despite considerable expectations placed upon the 21-year-old following his introduction at Fratton Park in late January, Peart-Harris made a spectacular debut against Port Vale, earning the title of man of the match.
Subsequently, the adaptable midfielder has showcased his skills and has been included in the starting lineup for nine out of their last 11 League One matches. Nevertheless, there remains a demand for more from him, particularly in the offensive aspect of play.
Enhancing his performance in the final third is currently the aspect of his game that Peart-Harris is keen to develop further. With only one goal and no assists in his ten appearances for the club so far, there’s room for improvement from his personal perspective. Nonetheless, Portsmouth has remained unbeaten since his arrival, establishing themselves as clear favorites for the title at this stage of the season.
With a five-point lead over Derby County in second place, along with a game in hand, the league leaders are in a commanding position with just seven games remaining. However, they still need to complete the task at hand and secure promotion.
Peart-Harris stepping up his performance in the final third could be precisely what Portsmouth requires to clinch promotion, potentially enabling them to enjoy the last few games due to their current position.
Speaking to The News, Portsmouth manager John Mousinho commended the January recruit but also urged him to contribute more in an attacking capacity.
“It’s been challenging because we’ve altered his position so frequently,” Mousinho remarked. “He excelled against Port Vale on the left. Against Northampton, he was the first substitution after Tom McIntyre’s dismissal, having been part of a side that dominated Northampton in the first half. However, we haven’t seen him in that position much since. We’ve positioned him as a six and a more conventional ten.
“We know it’s something he’s capable of, but it’s been a tough adjustment for him. Nevertheless, whenever he’s played, he’s fulfilled our defensive expectations and never disappointed us in that regard.
“We’ve seen glimpses of his match-winning quality, but we’d like to see more of it. It’s an area Myles can develop further, and certainly, an aspect we can concentrate on moving forward.”

Peart-Harris has proven to be an invaluable addition to Portsmouth since his arrival in the January window, bringing evident quality to the midfield. Given injuries across multiple positions, his versatility has been essential, and he has been a significant asset since joining on loan from Brentford.
While his contributions have been commendable, there’s always room for improvement, as highlighted by Mousinho. If he can achieve greater consistency, the sky’s the limit for the 21-year-old. He may potentially return to the Championship on loan next season or could secure a spot in Brentford’s first team.
