Breaking: Twins Lose Another Top Reliever Justin Topa Due to Knee Injury…

The Twins are facing bullpen challenges as the season approaches, with Justin Topa, a key offseason addition, sidelined due to a sore left knee. Topa, acquired from Seattle in the Jorge Polanco trade, will be placed on the injured list. The team aims for a two-week recovery, hoping to prevent long-term tendonitis.

Manager Rocco Baldelli acknowledges the need to address the absence of Topa, Jhoan Duran, and Caleb Thielbar, who are all expected to miss the start of the season. Brock Stewart and Griffin Jax are potential replacements, alongside newcomers Jay Jackson and Steven Okert.

Thielbar’s injury opens a spot for rookie Kody Funderburk, but final roster decisions remain fluid. The team is monitoring the waiver wire for additional options, considering both camp players and non-roster candidates like Daniel Duarte, claimed off waivers from Texas.

Despite these setbacks, Thielbar is making progress from a left hamstring strain, maintaining his arm strength with bullpen sessions. Meanwhile, Chris Paddack will stay in Florida for an additional start before the Twins’ departure, and Byron Buxton is set to play against the Atlanta Braves in North Port, Fla.

The Twins’ bullpen depth will be tested early in the season, highlighting the importance of adaptability and strategic roster decisions.
