Breaking: Portsmouth in contract talks with player wanted elsewhere, deal up this summer…

Portsmouth is currently engaged in negotiations with goalkeeper Toby Steward regarding a potential contract extension, as reported by The News. The club is eager to retain the services of the young player, whose current contract is set to expire at the conclusion of this season.

Steward, aged 19, has recently been on loan at Gosport Borough in the non-league circuit. According to The News, there is interest from other parties, with Premier League side Sheffield United having reportedly monitored him previously.

Securing a new contract for Steward would be advantageous for Portsmouth as they strive for automatic promotion from League One. He possesses promising attributes, has the potential for further growth, and has gained valuable experience during his time at Gosport this season.

Under the permission of John Mousinho’s team, Steward joined Southern League Premier Division South outfit last August and has since established himself as the first-choice goalkeeper at The Aerial Direct Stadium.

Upon the conclusion of the current campaign, Steward is expected to return to Portsmouth, leaving the club with a decision to make regarding his future in the upcoming transfer window, assuming he agrees to a contract extension soon. Another possibility could involve sending him on loan to a higher level, facilitating further development in his career.
