Done Deal: Charlton Sign a New striker Connor Wickham From Reading FC…

Charlton Athletic have secured the services of Connor Wickham, a former trialist at Reading FC, to bolster their squad in their fight against relegation in League One. The 30-year-old striker, who once featured in Reading’s youth setup, has signed with Charlton until the end of the season.

Wickham’s football journey has seen him rise through the ranks, gaining recognition at clubs like Ipswich Town and Sunderland. Following his release from MK Dons in 2022, he had a trial with Reading during a pre-season under Paul Ince at St George’s Park. Despite scoring during the trial, he wasn’t signed by Ince. However, Wickham continued to impress, eventually earning a move to Forest Green Rovers and later returning to the Championship with Cardiff City.

Charlton, managed by Nathan Jones, were struggling near the bottom of the table but have recently enjoyed a resurgence, going unbeaten in six games and surpassing Reading in the relegation battle. Wickham’s arrival, with 10 games remaining, aims to strengthen Charlton’s squad and help them avoid relegation from the third tier.

Manager Nathan Jones expressed his satisfaction with Wickham’s signing, praising his experience, physicality, and quality. Wickham himself is eager for the opportunity, stating his excitement to work with the team and the manager for the remainder of the season. He will wear the number 13 shirt for Charlton and is determined to contribute to the team’s push for survival in the league.
