Exclusive: Portsmouth Manager Speaks Up on What is Important for the Team Amidst Unbeaten Streak and New Signings…

Portsmouth manager John Mousinho emphasized the paramount importance of securing victories as the League One leaders continue their quest for promotion.

Following their 2-1 triumph over Oxford United on Saturday, extending their unbeaten streak to nine matches, Mousinho highlighted the significance of the win in maintaining their position at the top of the table.

The match saw Portsmouth securing their 22nd victory of the season, ensuring a seven-point lead over Derby in second place and Bolton in third.

Mousinho expressed the team’s ability to grind out wins as a positive sign, indicating a side moving in the right direction. He stressed the importance of being able to score from various sources and players, emphasizing that, especially at this stage of the season, the ultimate focus is on securing victories.

Despite taking an early lead with a goal from January signing Callum Lang, Oxford United managed to equalize with a penalty in the sixth minute. However, Portsmouth’s determination prevailed, with Christian Saydee scoring his first League One goal after the break to secure the win. This marked their fifth victory in the last six league matches, showcasing their consistency and resilience.

Mousinho also discussed the recent addition of Lee Evans to the squad, a signing made on a free transfer the day before the match. While Evans was not part of the squad for this particular game, Mousinho hinted at the anticipation surrounding the 29-year-old’s potential contribution in the final stretch of the campaign.

He praised Evans’ caliber and experience, noting that the midfielder, who was promoted last season, could be a valuable option in the remaining seven to eight games.

Looking ahead, Portsmouth is set to face Blackpool in their upcoming away fixture on Saturday. With the momentum from their recent successes and strengthened by the addition of Lee Evans, Mousinho remains optimistic about the team’s prospects as they strive for promotion in the final stages of the season.
