The newly appointed Defensive Coordinator for the New England Patriots, Demarcus Covington, is eager to shape the team’s defense according to a specific identity.
Covington, who officially assumed the role on February 1, expressed his desire for a physical and aggressive defense that emphasizes good fundamentals, discipline, and a proactive approach to seizing the ball from the opposing offense.
Having worked closely with Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo for the past five years, Covington highlighted their collaborative and challenging dynamic, emphasizing the mutual growth they’ve experienced.
Having previously served as the defensive line coach and outside linebackers coach for the Patriots, Covington inherits a defense that is already in a commendable state, ranking seventh in the NFL for yards allowed per game.
