The Chicago White Sox’s general manager has conveyed a clear message regarding trade rumors surrounding star pitcher Dylan Cease. Despite initial reports of a high asking price and a strong pursuit, trade speculation has subsided in recent weeks.
The first-time general manager, who had previously been unwavering in his stance, has now shifted gears. General manager Getz, in a Zoom session with reporters, stated that Cease will remain with the team at least until the start of the season and is expected to be the Opening Day starter.
During the offseason, the White Sox were open to trading Cease for the right price, but teams found Chicago’s asking price to be too high. Cease, under control for two more seasons, was retained by the White Sox, who resisted selling for less on the trade market.
Getz praised Cease’s caliber, preparation, lifestyle, temperament, and talent, emphasizing his rarity in the league. While acknowledging trade talks, Getz expressed confidence in Cease heading into spring training and the upcoming season.
