Breaking: An Insider Reveals Why Pacers Set to Waive Newly Acquired Guard Following Trade with Sixers…

The Pacers are set to release shooting guard Furkan Korkmaz following his acquisition from the Sixers, as reported by sources to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Indiana had initially traded Buddy Hield to the Sixers in a deal that included Marcus Morris, Korkmaz, and three second-round picks. However, the Pacers promptly traded Morris to San Antonio and will waive Korkmaz, indicating that their primary focus was on acquiring the draft picks, with the two former 76ers considered as salary-matching components.

Korkmaz, who has been part of the Sixers since 2017, played a consistent role in the rotation from 2019 to 2022. Nevertheless, his playing time has notably decreased over the last two seasons. In the 2023-24 season, he averaged 2.5 points per game in 35 bench appearances, shooting at .395/.350/.700 (8.6 MPG).

With an expiring contract worth $5,370,370, Indiana will be responsible for the cap hit once Korkmaz clears waivers.

The 26-year-old will have the opportunity to sign with any NBA team except the Sixers as a free agent, although a reunion with his former team seems unlikely, given his previous attempts to seek a trade out of Philadelphia in recent years.
