A contentious incident occurred in the second quarter when Jazz guard Collin Sexton delivered an elbow to Giannis Antetokounmpo’s face, causing the Bucks star to hit the floor in apparent pain. Following the play, tensions escalated as Sexton exchanged words with Antetokounmpo, leading to a scuffle with Malik Beasley. Both players received technical fouls and had to be separated.

After the game, Bucks head coach Doc Rivers addressed the incident, placing blame on the referees. Rivers argued that the officials overlooked Sexton stepping out of bounds before making the play, a violation that, if called, could have prevented the altercation. According to Rivers, the entire situation could have been avoided had the referees correctly executed their duties.
Rivers acknowledged that while Sexton’s contact with Giannis might not have been intentional, the act, coupled with standing over Antetokounmpo, triggered the ensuing conflict. He emphasized that had the out-of-bounds violation been recognized and addressed, the subsequent events would likely not have unfolded.
