The Cleveland Browns have decisively ruled out the possibility of releasing Amari Cooper, expressing zero intention to let him go. Instead, the team is leaning towards renegotiating his contract in the upcoming offseason to ensure his continued presence.
Speculation had arisen regarding Cooper’s future with the Browns, fueled by the team’s efforts to manage their budget, given his significant $23.7 million cap hit for the next season. However, Cooper’s stellar performance since joining the team in 2022, marked by consecutive 1,000-yard seasons and a fifth Pro Bowl selection, has solidified his value.
Terry Pluto from Cleveland.com, consulting reliable sources, debunked any notions of Cooper’s departure, emphasizing the Browns’ unwavering commitment. Pluto dismissed rumors of potential salary cap-related cuts, stating, “I checked with a top NFL source, and the Browns have no intention of letting Amari Cooper leave — I mean, ZERO.”
While the confirmation settles doubts about Cooper’s immediate future with the team, attention is turning to his contract, which has just one year remaining. Pluto suggests that an extension could secure the Browns’ top receiver for additional years and potentially reduce the cap hit for the next season.
Cooper’s standout performances, notably a franchise single-game record of 265 yards against the Houston Texans, underscore his pivotal role in the Browns’ offense last season. Despite facing challenges with multiple quarterbacks, Cooper amassed 1,250 yards on 72 catches.
