NBA Recap: Knicks hush Jazz, concluding a remarkable Historic month

In a spectacular performance on Tuesday night, Donte DiVincenzo led the New York Knicks to a 118-103 victory over the Utah Jazz, capping off their best month in nearly three decades. DiVincenzo set a career high by sinking nine 3-pointers, contributing 33 points to the Knicks’ win. The team concluded January on a scorching note, winning their final eight games and achieving a remarkable 14-2 record for the month. This impressive feat marked the most victories by the Knicks in a calendar month since March 1994, when a team led by Patrick Ewing under coach Pat Riley went 14-0.

DiVincenzo’s outstanding shooting performance fell just one 3-pointer short of matching the franchise record, a record shared by J.R. Smith and Evan Fournier. The dynamic duo of Josh Hart and Jalen Brunson also played pivotal roles in the victory. Hart secured his first career triple-double with 10 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists, while Brunson contributed 29 points and nine assists.

The Knicks faced adversity, with key players missing from the lineup. OG Anunoby, dealing with right elbow inflammation, remains day-to-day, and Julius Randle is out indefinitely due to a dislocated shoulder. However, the team showcased its depth and resilience, securing a second consecutive win without these key contributors.

The month’s success was not solely attributed to individual brilliance, as Isaiah Hartenstein recorded a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds, Precious Achiuwa added 18 points, and Quentin Grimes contributed 12 points off the bench.

Turning the spotlight to other NBA matchups, the Golden State Warriors defeated the Philadelphia 76ers with a score of 119-107. Stephen Curry played a crucial role, scoring 25 of his 37 points in the second half, breaking the Sixers’ four-game winning streak. The Warriors’ Jonathan Kuminga, Andrew Wiggins, and Brandin Podziemski also played key roles in the victory.

In another game, the Toronto Raptors emerged victorious over the Chicago Bulls with a score of 118-107. Gary Trent Jr. led the charge with 24 points, while Bruce Brown contributed 19 points and seven rebounds. The Raptors outscored the Bulls 65-44 in the second half, snapping a five-game skid.

The Boston Celtics secured a 129-124 win against the Indiana Pacers, propelled by Jayson Tatum’s impressive performance with 30 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists. Jaylen Brown and Derrick White also made significant contributions, sinking 17 of their 36 3-point attempts.

Finally, the Atlanta Hawks defeated the Los Angeles Lakers with a score of 138-122. Trae Young and Dejounte Murray combined for 50 points, with Young achieving his 29th double-double of the season with 26 points and 13 assists. Murray, returning from a previous absence due to hamstring tightness, added 24 points and nine assists. Despite a notable effort from the Lakers’ Austin Reaves and LeBron James, who finished with 28 points and 20 points, respectively, Los Angeles played without Anthony Davis due to hip and ankle issues.
