The Philadelphia Flyers have officially inked a new eight-year contract extension with forward Owen Tippett, valued at $49.6 million with an average annual value (AAV) of $6.2 million. The extension will take effect from the 2024-25 season, as confirmed by General Manager Daniel Briere.
Owen Tippett, aged 24 and hailing from Peterborough, Ontario, has demonstrated his prowess on the ice this season, amassing 30 points (18 goals and 12 assists) in 46 games. Standing at 6 feet 1 inch and weighing 210 pounds, Tippett leads the Flyers in even-strength goals with 16 and shots on goal with 167. He shares the top spot in game-winning goals with three, ranks second in total goals, and is tied for third in overall scoring.
Noteworthy milestones for Tippett include playing in his 200th career NHL game on October 28 against ANA and reaching his 100th career NHL point on November 15 versus CAR. He achieved a career-high four-game goal streak from November 10 to 18, matched his four-game point streak three times throughout the season, and recorded a career-high 10 shots on goal on January 15 against STL.
Over the course of his career, Tippett has accumulated 86 points (49 goals and 37 assists) in 144 games as a Flyer. His overall NHL career stats stand at 119 points (63 goals and 56 assists) in 238 contests, spanning five seasons with both the Florida Panthers and the Philadelphia Flyers.
Tippett was acquired by the Flyers on March 19, 2022, in a trade with the Florida Panthers that also involved a third-round pick in the 2023 NHL Draft and a first-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft. The trade saw Claude Giroux, Connor Bunnaman, German Rubstov, and a fifth-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft heading to the Panthers. Tippett had initially been selected by the Panthers as the 10th overall pick in the 2017 NHL Draft.
