“Ain’t Just kiddin” – Phillies Manager Sends Warning to Braves National League East Tittle Chase…

The Phillies’ manager, Rob Thomson, has a clear message for the Atlanta Braves: Philadelphia is determined to secure victory in the National League East, a title the Braves have held for the past six seasons. Despite Atlanta’s dominance, Thomson is confident that the Phillies will change the narrative in the upcoming 2024 season.

Thomson, in an interview with the Philadelphia Inquirer’s Alex Coffey, outlined his team’s strategy to avoid falling behind early in the division. He emphasized the importance of a strong start, addressing issues such as offensive struggles from key players like Trea Turner and Bryce Harper, who faced challenges adjusting after a World Baseball Classic and dealing with the impact of the Trajekt pitching machine during spring training.

The manager stressed the need for increased at-bats during spring training, particularly for players like Turner, Kyle Schwarber, and J.T. Realmuto. Thomson believes that a better start to the season will alleviate pressure in the later months and prevent the team from playing catch-up, as was the case in previous seasons.

While adjustments are also needed in the bullpen, Thomson highlighted the delicate balance in preparing relievers. Unlike hitters, relievers should avoid extra work in minor league settings to maintain the intensity and adrenaline of major league spring training games.

Thomson concluded by discussing changes to the team’s spring training approach, treating the last week of Grapefruit League action as an extension of the regular season. He emphasized the importance of using relievers in roles they will play during the regular season to familiarize them with their duties.

The Phillies, finishing in 3rd place in 2022 and 2nd place in 2023, have recently secured playoff berths as a wild card. However, Thomson is determined to steer away from settling for a wild card spot, expressing the team’s ambition to win the division. He challenged the notion that winning the wild card is an easy path to success, emphasizing the need for consistent performance throughout the entire season.

Philadelphia’s last NL East victory was in 2011, and Thomson is eager to lead his team to reclaim the division title, emphasizing the importance of playing solid baseball every month to achieve their goal.
