Breaking: Kayshon Boutte is detained and accused of engaging in unlawful sports betting…

According to 9News, Kayshon Boutte, a former outstanding wide receiver at LSU, has been charged in an unlawful sports gambling scam. Before Boutte was selected by the Patriots in the 2023 NFL Draft, he played football for the Tigers, where several of the alleged incidents took place. Boutte never placed a wager “against himself” on LSU football games, according to the original article. Louisiana State Police reported that Boutte has been suspected of betting on at least 17 college football games, at least six of which were LSU games while he was a member of the team in 2022, according to NOLA.com.

Boutte allegedly handed himself in to police on a misdemeanor count of gaming with intent to deceive and a felony charge of computer fraud. “In July 2023, LSU was made aware of accusations regarding a former student-athlete’s illegal conduct relating to sports gambling while enrolled at the University,” the university said in a statement regarding the Boutte case on Thursday. We have continued to fully assist with all the authorities involved in the inquiry since that time. There is no proof that any other student-athlete engaged in these forbidden activities, and we appreciate the policies that identify and deter misbehavior linked to sports gambling.”

Since Boutte wasn’t yet 21 years old, it is said that he made a fictitious account with an inaccurate birthday in order to access gaming websites. According to the story, Boutte wagered and won more than “several hundred thousand dollars” throughout the 2022 season, according to sources.

Boutte, who was voted a preseason first team All-America by the Associated Press and was widely regarded as a first-round pick before the 2022 campaign, struggled to settle into a rhythm late in the season against Florida State. He had 48 catches for 538 yards and two touchdowns at the end of the season. In the final two games, he had 10 grabs for 150 yards and a score.
Boutte first said he would be back in 2023 for his final season. But the troubled wideout declared for the draft a few hours after LSU released a statement indicating he would not participate in the Citrus Bowl.

Boutte weighed 195 pounds, had 9.5-inch hands, and measured 5-foot-11 with an arm length of 31 3/8 inches at the NFL Scouting Combine in March of last year. Boutte needed to run a fast time in the 40-yard sprint to allay some doubts about his stock, and he did so twice, clocking times of 4.50 and 4.67 seconds. In addition, he only managed a 29-inch vertical and a 9-foot, 10-inch broad jump, which did not provide him with the necessary boost.

Boutte, a five-star prospect in the 2020 class, graduated from Westgate High School in New Iberia, Louisiana, with a 247Sports wide receiver ranking of No. 3 and a national prospect ranking of No. 20. On the industry-generated 247Sports Composite, he came in one spot higher at No. 2 but four places lower overall at No. 24.
