Breaking: Arizona Wildcats Secure Former San Jose State Coach and AFC South Rivalry Heats Up

Arizona’s head coach, Brent Brennan, is diligently assembling his coaching staff, and the Wildcats have secured the services of former San Jose State offensive line coach Josh Oglesby for the same position. Oglesby recently completed his fourth season with the Spartans, taking on the role of offensive line coach in March 2020.

During the 2022 season, San Jose State’s offensive line, under Oglesby’s guidance, played a pivotal role in quarterback Chevan Cordeiro’s impressive performance. Cordeiro led the Mountain West with 3,251 passing yards and 23 passing touchdowns. The team also excelled in rushing, with running back Kairee Robinson achieving career highs in both yards (752) and touchdowns (10). The Spartans’ offensive success contributed to Oglesby’s nomination for the prestigious 2023 Broyles Award, recognizing the top assistant coaches in college football.

Oglesby’s coaching tenure with the Spartans saw notable achievements, including the team tying for eighth nationally in pass protection and achieving their best rushing offense in five years. Left tackle Jack Snyder, coached by Oglesby, earned first-team all-conference honors and subsequently signed with the Los Angeles Rams in 2022.

Before joining San Jose State, Oglesby’s coaching experience included stints with the XFL’s Seattle Dragons, the Alliance of American Football’s San Antonio Commanders, and the University of Texas El Paso. He also participated in the Bill Walsh NFL Diversity Coaching Fellowship program with the Oakland Raiders and the Indianapolis Colts.

Oglesby’s playing career at the University of Wisconsin, where he was a first-team All-Big Ten honoree, and his subsequent professional football pursuit with the Washington Football Team in 2012, add to his wealth of experience.

Switching gears, the Indianapolis Colts’ defensive standout, DeForest Buckner, is gearing up for the challenge of facing the Tennessee Titans in the AFC South. Buckner expresses excitement about the increased competition following the Titans’ acquisition of Julio Jones and the Colts’ addition of quarterback Carson Wentz. The Colts are determined to compete for the division crown, viewing the Titans as formidable opponents.

Buckner, an All-Pro First-Team honoree, had a stellar season, showcasing his dominance with 45 combined tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery over 13 games. His impact on the Colts’ defense was evident when he missed a game against the league’s rushing leader, Derrick Henry, who ran for 178 yards and three touchdowns.

Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus praises Buckner’s imposing physical presence, emphasizing his rare combination of size, explosiveness, and athleticism. Buckner’s 6-foot-7, 295-pound frame makes him a formidable force on the interior, disrupting opponents and earning the respect of teammates and opponents alike.

Meanwhile, the Cleveland Browns have undergone changes in their coaching staff, dismissing offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt, running backs coach Stump Mitchell, and tight ends coach T.C. McCartney. With a vacancy at offensive coordinator, head coach Kevin Stefanski is on the lookout for an innovative mind to join the staff. Several candidates, including Darell Bevell, Tim Kelly, Zac Robinson, Liam Coen, Shane Waldron, Nick Caley, Klint Kubiak, Jerrod Johnson, Brian Griese, and Cam Turner, are being considered for the position. Each brings a unique set of experiences and successes, making the decision crucial for the Browns’ offensive future.
