The Chicago Bears, along with the Denver Broncos and New Orleans Saints, may unexpectedly become focal points of the HBO and NFL Films reality series, ‘Hard Knocks.’ This year, these three NFL teams meet specific criteria that make their participation in the show mandatory.
To be eligible for ‘Hard Knocks,’ teams must either have a first-year coach, have made the playoffs in the last two years, or not have appeared on the show in the previous decade. Teams falling outside of these exemptions can volunteer, but if an insufficient number step forward, those meeting the criteria may be chosen involuntarily.
Given that the Chicago Bears have not made the playoffs since 2020, making them one of only four teams with a longer postseason absence, they could be an appealing choice for the series. The potential addition of a new quarterback adds an extra layer of intrigue. Last year, the Bears were also unable to decline participation, but the New York Jets were ultimately selected for the show.
While the Washington Commanders, with their recent coaching change, now have the option to decline, the Denver Broncos and New Orleans Saints are still in the pool of teams that could be compelled to appear on ‘Hard Knocks.’ The potential inclusion of Broncos coach Sean Payton in the reality series could be a significant development, especially if the Bears retain the No. 1 overall pick and select USC quarterback Caleb Williams.

Wide receiver DJ Moore has been vocal about the future of quarterback Justin Fields with the Chicago Bears, and now he’s expressing his own sentiments.
Following his trade from the Carolina Panthers in exchange for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft, Moore has proven to be a significant asset for the Bears, achieving career-highs in catches, receiving yards, and touchdowns.
Despite being with the team for just one year, Moore feels entitled to share his thoughts on the future. In an interview with ESPN’s Courtney Cronin on January 17, he expressed the desire to retire as a Chicago Bear after at least five years with the team.
Moore’s contract binds him to the Bears for the next two seasons, with a deal worth three years and $62 million. The financial structure of his contract aligns favorably with the team’s cap room, providing flexibility for the Bears, who currently have over $50 million in cap space for 2024.
With a salary cap hit of $16.05 million in both 2024 and 2025, Moore’s value on the books is notably less than his average annual earnings.
Considering Moore’s outstanding performance and pivotal role in the team’s offense, trading him appears highly unlikely. He is positioned to be a key wide receiver for the Bears in the coming years, regardless of whether Justin Fields remains the quarterback or if the team opts for a top prospect in the No. 1 overall draft pick. Moore has consistently advocated for Fields to stay in Chicago and has suggested trading down in the upcoming draft to the front office, emphasizing the success of such a strategy in the past.
