Irish Defender Reveals the Reason for his Stoke City Loan Move…

Irish defender Luke McNally is determined to maximize his loan stint in the Championship with Stoke City as he seeks to showcase his abilities to his Premier League club.

Despite being signed by Burnley from Oxford United for €2 million in 2022, McNally has had limited playing time, making only two substitute appearances. He spent the previous season on loan at Coventry City and is currently on loan at Stoke City.

This loan opportunity has provided the 24-year-old with more playing time, making 26 appearances this season. McNally sees the Championship as a crucial level for his development, emphasizing the importance of gaining experience and improving as a player. His goal is to eventually secure a place in Burnley’s lineup.

Reflecting on his experience, McNally expressed satisfaction with the chance to play in the Championship, stating, “It’s part of my development just to play as many games as I can and try to improve as a player.

That’s been the main thing for me, and I’m enjoying it and really benefiting and developing from it so far.”

During the current season, McNally achieved a milestone by scoring a rare goal, securing the winner in a 2-1 victory over Sunderland in October.

This marked his first goal in 43 games, and he shared his excitement, saying, “I didn’t score last season, so I was kind of waiting to hit the back of the net. It’s great to have got that first goal, and we won that day against Sunderland.”

McNally acknowledged the joy of scoring, regardless of the position one is in, and expressed his eagerness to replicate the feat soon, noting, “It’s always nice to score, whatever the position you are in, and I would say there’s still no better feeling than the ball hitting the back of the net.

I was buzzing. I’ve got my head on a good few this year; just some of them haven’t dropped, so I’m hoping to get another one soon.”
