Diamondbacks Intensifies Pursuit of the Missing Piece in their Successful Offseason Puzzle and Unveil 2024 Player Development Staff in Offseason Moves…

“Diamondbacks are targeting Jorge Soler as the missing piece in their successful offseason puzzle. In need of a designated hitter (DH) to complete their roster, the Arizona Diamondbacks are actively pursuing slugger Jorge Soler. Other teams, including the Blue Jays and Red Sox, are also in the race for the 2021 World Series MVP, according to MLB insider Mark Feinsand.

Soler had an impressive 2023 season with the Marlins, earning his first All-Star game appearance. He showcased his power by hitting 36 home runs, driving in 75 runs, and achieving a .853 SLG. Notably, these 36 home runs were his highest since the 2019 season with the Kansas City Royals, demonstrating that, even at 31 years old, he remains a formidable force.

In 2023, Soler ranked in the 94th percentile in xSLG and 81st in average exit velocity, as per Statcast. With the Diamondbacks lacking a confirmed DH, Soler is a top priority for them as they look to finalize their offseason moves. Additionally, the Diamondbacks are still keen on bringing back J.D. Martinez, with Feinsand noting that a reunion with the team, where Martinez had a remarkable 62-game stint in 2017, would make sense.

As free agency gains momentum after the holiday season, further updates on player acquisitions are expected.

In other Diamondbacks news, the team has announced its Player Development staff for the 2024 season. With Josh Barfield, the former Director of Player Development, moving to the Chicago White Sox as Assistant General Manager, Shaun Larkin has been appointed as his replacement. The coaching changes extend to the minor leagues, with Chris Slivka taking over as the top assistant.

The coaching shuffle also includes new hires and promotions within the organization’s various teams. Notably, former Diamondbacks players such as Miguel Montero, Orlando Hudson, Nick Evans, and Matt Herges have roles as Player Development Assistants or Rehab and Complex League Pitching Coordinator.

The Mental Performance staff will remain unchanged in their roles for the upcoming season.

On the medical front, Mike Powell succeeds Kelly Boyce as the Minor League Medical Coordinator, while Nate Friedman joins as the Strength and Conditioning Rehab coordinator. The coaching staff for the Reno Aces, Amarillo Sod Poodles, Hillsboro Hops, Visalia Rawhide, and Arizona Complex League, as well as the Dominican Summer League teams, has been finalized, with experienced names taking on managerial and coaching positions.

As the Diamondbacks continue to shape their roster and development staff, the 2024 season promises to be an intriguing one for the organization.”
