Houston Looses Oustanding Player Louisville Bolsters Offensive Line with Key Transfer for the 2024 Season…

Louisville has secured a significant addition to its offensive line with the commitment of Reuben Unije, a right tackle who spent the last four years playing for Houston.

Unije, standing at 6 feet 5 inches and weighing 310 pounds, has decided to play his final season of eligibility with the Cardinals. Having started 11 games for the Cougars in the previous season, he showcased his skills as a reliable right tackle, only missing the season finale against UCF.

During his time at Houston, Unije demonstrated his proficiency in pass-blocking and overall blocking, recording impressive stats. In 439 pass-blocking snaps and 679 overall blocking snaps at right tackle, he allowed only five sacks, three quarterback hits, and 22 pressures.

His collegiate journey began at Coahoma (Miss.) Junior College in 2019 before transferring to Houston in 2020. Across 28 games and 21 starts as a Cougar, Unije allowed only eight sacks and 49 total pressures in 850 pass-blocking snaps and 1,378 overall blocking snaps.

Louisville’s acquisition of Unije addresses a crucial need for the team, especially considering the potential loss of seven offensive linemen, including three starters, due to graduation and the transfer portal. Unije is the fifth offensive lineman to join Louisville’s roster, joining other notable transfers such as Jonathan Mendoza, Pete Nygra, Victor Cutler, and Monroe Mills.

The commitment of Unije is part of Louisville’s broader strategy in the transfer portal, with a total of 18 transfer commitments. Additionally, the team has witnessed 17 of its scholarship players entering the transfer portal during the winter transfer window.

Louisville concluded its 2023 season with an overall record of 10-4 (7-1 in ACC), securing a spot in the program’s first-ever ACC Championship Game. However, the season ended on a three-game losing streak under head coach Jeff Brohm.
