After serving a one-game suspension, Jaire Alexander expressed his gratitude for being part of the Green Bay Packers and pledged not to repeat the behavior that led to his suspension. The 26-year-old cornerback, who wants to stay with the Packers beyond this season, stated that conversations with team officials following the incident should strengthen their relationship.
Acknowledging the need for improved communication, Alexander, who has been dealing with a shoulder injury for the past two months, participated fully in Wednesday’s practice. Coach Matt LaFleur, while not disclosing specific details about Alexander’s role in the upcoming game against the Chicago Bears, mentioned a positive conversation with the player and expressed readiness to have him back.
Alexander’s suspension resulted from his decision to appoint himself captain for the Christmas Eve game against the Carolina Panthers, where he made a misstep during the coin toss. Despite the surprise of the suspension, Alexander found solace in the team’s success without him in the recent victory against the Minnesota Vikings.
Looking ahead, Alexander doesn’t anticipate significant changes in his approach but hinted at more serious interviews. A key player for the Packers, he signed a lucrative contract extension in May 2022, but injuries have limited his participation to six out of 16 games this season.
Addressing concerns about his shoulder impacting his play, Alexander emphasized the importance of mindset and expressed optimism about his availability for the upcoming game. He sees the suspension as an opportunity for constructive conversations with Coach LaFleur and general manager Brian Gutekunst, acknowledging the need for improved communication with team officials in the future.
In terms of team updates, several players, including wide receivers Christian Watson, Dontayvion Wicks, and Jayden Reed, were limited participants in Wednesday’s practice due to various injuries. Linebacker Isaiah McDuffie, outside linebacker Preston Smith, running back AJ Dillon, safety Rudy Ford, and left guard Elgton Jenkins did not practice, with various injuries listed for each.
