Current Milwaukee Bucks Owners Breaks Silence on Why Herb Kohl Really Sold Franchise to Them…

The current owners of the Milwaukee Bucks, Wes Edens and Marc Lasry, were selected by Herb Kohl to take over the franchise in 2014 when he decided to sell his ownership stake.

Kohl, a beloved figure during his time as the team’s owner, ensured a smooth transition by carefully choosing Edens and Lasry as his successors.

In an interview with Eric Nehm of The Athletic, Edens shared insights into the sale process, emphasizing Kohl’s authenticity and genuine love for the Bucks and the Milwaukee community.

Edens explained that after the sale process began, they were invited to tour the facilities, meet management, and spend time with Senator Kohl. He described Kohl as authentic and highlighted the Senator’s deep love for the Bucks and the people of Wisconsin.

According to Edens, Kohl’s focus was on ensuring the team’s continued presence in Milwaukee, and he saw in Edens and Lasry individuals who shared his vision of keeping the Bucks rooted in the city.

Both Edens and Lasry, in separate statements to The Athletic, reiterated Kohl’s commitment to keeping the Bucks in Milwaukee. Lasry emphasized that Kohl’s primary goal was to secure the team’s future in the city, making it a prerequisite for them to own the team.

Kohl’s deep care for the city, its people, and the Bucks organization was evident, and his determination to see the team remain in Milwaukee was a driving force behind his choice of Edens and Lasry as the new caretakers of the franchise.

Even after Kohl’s passing, Edens and Lasry remain dedicated to fulfilling his vision and ensuring that the Bucks continue to be an integral part of Milwaukee.
