“Jump on it” – Lions’ John Cominsky Breaks Silence on ‘Miller Time’ Error and Makes a Vow…

Following the recent victory against the Minnesota Vikings with a final score of 30-24, the Detroit Lions, currently leading the NFC North with an impressive 11-4 record for the season, have experienced success in three out of their last four games.

Notably, they triumphed over the New Orleans Saints, Denver Broncos, and the Vikings, albeit facing a setback against the Chicago Bears.

However, amidst the celebration, Lions defensive end John Cominsky candidly acknowledged a pivotal mistake during the game.

In a momentary lapse, he kicked the ball instead of securing it, inadvertently providing an opportunity for the Vikings to recover.

Reflecting on the error, Cominsky admitted, ‘You see the football on the ground and kind of get caught up in the moment, forget the situation you’re in and make mistakes.’

According to reports from the Detroit News, Cominsky revealed that the team emphasizes a pre-snap checklist known as ‘Miller Time’ to remind players of critical in-game situations.

In this instance, ‘Miller Time’ signifies a conservative mindset, prompting players to immediately secure possession of the ball in certain scenarios.

Cominsky acknowledged his failure to adhere to this protocol, stating, ‘You’ve got to kind of tell yourself, ‘It’s Miller Time, it’s Miller Time,’ before the snap. I didn’t do that, obviously.’

Despite the mistake, Cominsky expressed gratitude to his teammate Iffy for covering up the error, emphasizing the collaborative nature of the sport. He acknowledged the team’s ability to overcome the setback, expressing a commitment to learning from the experience.

Looking ahead, Cominsky affirmed, ‘Thank God we overcame it, and I’m able to look at that mistake (on film), adjust, and just know when we’re in a ‘Miller Time’ situation again in the future, I won’t repeat that mistake. Next time there’s a ball on the ground, I’ll just jump on it.
