Portsmouth star makes a ‘brutal’ admission after AFC Wimbledon defeat, while Reading FC owner is fined…

Johnnie Jackson expressed his joy over AFC Wimbledon’s impressive 5-2 victory against Portsmouth in the EFL Trophy second round on Tuesday night, characterizing the performance as “outstanding.”

The Dons took an early lead with goals from Aron Sasu, who secured his first senior goal for the club, Josh Davison, and Alex Pearce, establishing a three-goal advantage before the 30-minute mark.

Although Kusini Yengi pulled one back for Portsmouth before halftime, Harry Pell extended Wimbledon’s lead with a free-kick early in the second half. Despite Gavin Whyte finding the net for Portsmouth, substitute Ali Al-Hamadi secured the fifth goal for Wimbledon in the 89th minute, ensuring their progression to the third round against League One Oxford United.

In reflection, Jackson remarked that, somewhat surprisingly, his team could have won by a larger margin, emphasizing the exceptional performance from start to finish. Praising Sasu’s contribution, he acknowledged the player’s persistence in scoring his first goal and commended his impactful presence on the field.

Jackson, who made 10 changes for the EFL Trophy clash following a goalless draw at Salford on Saturday, expressed satisfaction with the depth of his squad. He noted that the players who had been waiting for their opportunity seized it admirably, creating a selection dilemma for the upcoming match against Crawley.

Despite the significant changes in the lineup, Jackson was pleased that the team maintained its distinctive Wimbledon identity, concluding that he couldn’t be more content with the squad’s performance.
