Carmelo Anthony recently shared an explicit message he conveyed to Damian Lillard before the latter’s trade from the Portland Trail Blazers to the Milwaukee Bucks.
Speaking on the ‘7pm in Brooklyn’ podcast, Anthony revealed the essence of his conversation with Lillard. In summary, he encouraged Lillard to leave Portland, drawing parallels to his own experience in Denver, emphasizing the potential pitfalls of loyalty.
Anthony asserted that sometimes, hitting rock bottom is necessary to make the decision to move on. Despite Lillard’s deep connection and loyalty to Portland, Anthony consistently advised him to consider leaving.
Lillard, however, remained steadfast in his commitment to the Blazers. Eventually, in September, Lillard was part of a multi-team trade that sent him to the Bucks, bringing Jrue Holiday and Deandre Ayton to Portland, with Holiday later being rerouted to the Boston Celtics.
Lillard showcased his prowess with a stellar performance against the Spurs, scoring 40 points and surpassing 20,000 career points. The Bucks’ next game is against the Orlando Magic on Thursday night.
