Portsmouth Makes Final Decision on Winger Josh Martin’s Fate as Short-Term Contract Nears Conclusion…

Portsmouth is set to evaluate the status of winger Josh Martin in the upcoming weeks as he nears the conclusion of his short-term contract.

Recruited in November after training with John Mousinho’s side, the 22-year-old was initially brought in on a short-term basis, with his contract set to expire in mid-January. Despite playing three times in League One, Martin was not included in the squad for the recent victory against Shrewsbury Town, as other wingers returned to the lineup.

Manager John Mousinho has addressed inquiries about Martin’s situation, emphasizing that opportunities will arise for him during the busy festive period. Mousinho stated to The News that a decision regarding Martin’s future will be assessed over the next five games, acknowledging the tight timeframe but emphasizing the numerous matches ahead.

Despite the competition for starting positions with the return of other wingers, Mousinho acknowledged Martin’s positive performance and affirmed his significant role in the upcoming games. With the availability of in-form players like Paddy Lane, Abu Kamara, Gavin Whyte, and the returning Anthony Scully, Martin may face more competition for playing time.

However, Mousinho recognizes Martin’s contributions and hopes he can continue to make an impact before his contract expires, potentially attracting interest from other clubs and minimizing his time as a free agent if he doesn’t remain with Portsmouth.
