Chuck Martin has Issued his Honest Verdict as Miami University Gears Up for Cure Bowl Clash Against Appalachian State…

Miami University’s football coach, Chuck Martin, expressed his enthusiasm about the upcoming Cure Bowl matchup against Appalachian State, acknowledging the chaotic nature of the bowl season due to ongoing recruiting activities. Despite the tight schedule, Martin and the RedHawks are eager for their third consecutive bowl appearance, facing off against Appalachian State in a game that could lead to the second-highest number of wins in program history.

The RedHawks, with an impressive 11-2 record, will play against the 8-5 Appalachian State in a clash of two non-Power Five programs with rich histories. Martin highlighted the significance of the matchup, emphasizing the potential for a great game if both teams perform well.

Reflecting on Miami’s journey, Martin acknowledged the challenges, including injuries and players entering the transfer portal, but praised the team’s resilience over the 13-week season. Despite setbacks, Miami has excelled in various aspects, such as special teams, where junior kicker Graham Nicholson recently won the Lou Groza Award. The offense, led by redshirt sophomore running back Rashad Amos, has been formidable, and the defense ranks seventh nationally, allowing only 16.2 points per game.

Facing quarterback challenges, with Brett Gabbert’s season-ending injury and Aveon Smith entering the transfer portal, redshirt quarterback Henry Hesson will start, supported by redshirt sophomore Maddox Kopp.

Looking ahead to the Cure Bowl, Martin acknowledged the athletic prowess of Appalachian State, praising their speed and aggressiveness on both sides of the ball. Redshirt junior linebacker Matt Salopek, named MAC Defensive Player of the Year, expressed pride in the team’s accomplishments, including victories over rivals Cincinnati and Ohio University.
