Carlisle United’s Directors Sends a Stunning Message to CUOSC Amid their Role in Takeover…

Carlisle United’s directors express gratitude to the supporters’ trust, CUOSC, for their crucial role in the Piatak takeover.

As the trust holds its annual general meeting, it is acknowledged that CUOSC played a pivotal role in attracting the American family that now owns the club.

Nigel Clibbens, the chief executive of Carlisle United, emphasizes the often overlooked contribution of CUOSC, stating that they deserve credit for their involvement in challenging decisions in the past.

Notably, they resisted the Eden Valley Sport option, a proposed takeover linked to Edinburgh Woollen Mill’s Philip Day.

Clibbens praises CUOSC for their unwavering stance, particularly Billy Atkinson, CUOSC’s representative on the CUFC Holdings board, who faced challenges both within and outside the club.

Clibbens underscores the importance of CUOSC as a safeguard rather than a potential hindrance to deals, commending their good judgment.

He highlights that CUOSC, despite initial concerns, demonstrated a willingness to dilute their voting stake when the right opportunity arose, allowing the Piataks to secure 90% control of the club’s holding company.

CUOSC’s positive role in discussions with the Florida-based Piatak family is acknowledged, and their support for the successful takeover is evident.

The trust’s growing membership, now exceeding 1,200, is noted, and the upcoming AGM will see the election of new trust board members.

Clibbens extends credit to CUOSC figures, past and present, including Billy Atkinson, the late Jim Mitchell, and Nigel Davidson, emphasizing their contributions to reaching this pivotal moment.

He expresses hope that the recent developments mark the beginning of a promising new era for Carlisle United.
