Former Stoke boss ‘holds talks’ about Championship return…

Chairman Tony Stewart has expressed his desire for the prospective new manager to possess prior experience in leading teams in the second tier.

Gary Rowett, a former Stoke manager, and Leam Richardson, the ex-Wigan chief, are among the individuals reportedly being considered for the position.

Following a 4-1 loss to Hull City on Tuesday, Rotherham finds itself second from the bottom in the league standings.

Interim manager Wayne Carlisle remains uncertain about retaining his role for the upcoming match against Birmingham this weekend, stating, “I haven’t been told anything.

I dare say my phone will ring at some point tomorrow, and I’ll find out what the next steps are. I’m happy to do it, I’m really enjoying doing it. We’ve done our prep for Saturday today. We’re ready to go if needed.”

The return fixture against Stoke is scheduled for January 13, with Stoke having secured a 4-1 victory at the bet365 Stadium on the opening day of the season.
