Portsmouth Star Aiming to End International Drought in Euro 2024 Qualifiers from Bench…

Portsmouth’s in-form winger, Paddy Lane, is eager to break a frustrating streak of being on the bench without playing in the last nine consecutive Northern Ireland matches.

Despite his consistent selection for the national squad, Lane has not seen any action since June 2022.

The 22-year-old, who has been instrumental for Pompey this season, earning three assists in the last two league games, has been called up for the Euro 2024 qualifiers against Finland and Denmark.

While Lane remains hopeful about getting some playing time, he acknowledges the unpredictability of the manager’s plans.

Despite not featuring under Michael O’Neill, who returned as Northern Ireland boss in December 2022, Lane is optimistic that his outstanding performance for Portsmouth will increase his chances of playing in the upcoming matches.

Reflecting on his experiences on the bench in various international fixtures, Lane expresses the occasional disappointment but emphasizes the importance of staying focused and taking each game as it comes.

He highlights his commitment to giving his best, both on and off the field, mentioning his positive impact in the changing room even when not playing.

Looking ahead to the upcoming fixtures, Lane is hopeful about contributing on the field against Finland. Meanwhile, Gavin Whyte, a former Cardiff winger, continues to miss out on the squad since June 2023.

Lane praises Whyte’s skills and dedication in training, expressing confidence that once Whyte starts scoring and assisting, he will make a significant impact for Portsmouth.
