Spectator Files Lawsuit Against Atlanta Braves and Jorge Soler Over 2021 World Series incident…

A baseball enthusiast has filed a lawsuit against the Atlanta Braves and Jorge Soler regarding an incident that occurred during the 2021 World Series.

According to PEOPLE, the legal action stems from an alleged incident in which Jorge Soler, a Major League Baseball (MLB) player, caused injuries to a fan’s face by hurling a baseball into the stands during a game break at Truist Park on October 29, 2021.

The fan in question, Mayra Morris, sustained significant harm, including severe damage to her eye socket and excruciating injuries, as indicated in the complaint submitted by Morris and her husband to the Cobb County Superior Court on October 25. The legal filing also contends that Morris suffered fractures in her eye socket, and it accuses Soler and the Braves of displaying “dangerous and reckless” behavior.

Susan Shaw, the attorney representing Morris, emphasized that this was not a typical scenario of a player tossing a souvenir ball to a fan or spectator. Instead, Soler allegedly threw the ball with great force and speed. Shaw pointed out that Morris had no time to react to the incoming ball and insisted that if players choose to throw balls into the stands, they should do so with a reasonable level of care.

Following the incident, Braves security documented the situation in a team medical office. The lawsuit reveals that Norris was diagnosed with multiple facial fractures the day after the incident and had to undergo surgery three weeks later. The cost of her medical treatment over two years is estimated to be around $60,000.

It’s worth noting that the Atlanta Braves emerged victorious in the 2021 World Series against the Houston Astros, and Jorge Soler earned the World Series MVP title. Subsequently, Soler joined the Miami Marlins after the 2021 season, where he has been part of the team for the past two seasons. During the 2023 season, Soler displayed notable performance, achieving 36 home runs, 75 RBIs, and an OPS of .853, earning praise from the Marlins’ general manager, Kim Ng.
