Why Bradford City boss slams his team for loss to Sutton United…

Kevin McDonald expressed his disappointment regarding his team’s performance in the first half, as they suffered a 2-1 loss to Sutton United.

The interim player-manager of the Bantams believed that City failed to generate enough scoring opportunities and didn’t pose a significant threat to their opponents during the initial period of the match. They entered halftime trailing by a goal and later conceded a late goal, resulting in their defeat.

McDonald stated, “I thought our performance was subpar in the first half. We deserved to be down by a goal at halftime. We made a few adjustments during the break to enhance our attacking prospects, and those changes proved effective. We managed to gain control of the game afterward and scored a goal. We probably should have scored more than just one.”

He also expressed his disappointment at conceding a crucial goal, especially given the improved performance in the second half.

One of the few positive aspects of the game for McDonald was seeing Andy Cook find the back of the net for the first time while under his temporary leadership. McDonald was pleased to witness his No.9 score but acknowledged that on another day, Cook could have scored at least one more goal.

McDonald added, “It was gratifying to see Cooky get back on the scoresheet today. He is an exceptionally hardworking and honest individual. On a different day, he might have scored another goal, particularly the one where he hit the crossbar with a well-taken volley. If that shot had gone in, it would have changed the entire outcome of the game. We need to assess what we can do to better prepare for the next match.
