Doncaster Rovers manager shares his honest verdict on their victory over Grimsby…

Doncaster Rovers manager Grant McCann has given his assessment of their victory over Grimsby Town. He acknowledged that his team didn’t perform at their best in the 1-0 win.

The only goal came from Joe Ironside’s second-half penalty. McCann conceded that the match was not an exciting one to watch.

McCann admitted that it was a scrappy game, which they hadn’t expected. He expressed a desire for his team to have played better, but he also credited Grimsby for putting up a strong challenge. Despite the lackluster spectacle, he was pleased with their defensive performance, especially after their previous game against Salford.

The penalty converted by Ironside was the only shot on target for Doncaster, and Grimsby managed just one on target as well. After going behind in the 72nd minute, Grimsby had a limited response, and Doncaster missed an opportunity to extend their lead when Mo Faal hit the crossbar.

McCann emphasized the importance of staying strong defensively and finding a way to win when they weren’t in top form. He praised Kyle Hurst for injecting some spark and quality into the game, as his contribution led to the penalty that secured the victory.

Although their performance was subpar, Doncaster achieved their sixth win in ten league games, earning 18 points in that period, placing them sixth in the division’s form table. McCann credited the players for their remarkable turnaround and highlighted the strong sense of togetherness and belief in the dressing room.

Looking ahead, Doncaster will face Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup before returning to league action against AFC Wimbledon on November 11.
