“Never say never…” – 38 years-old IRU player to make a surprising comeback in the 2024 Six Nations as Irish rugby team set for restructure…

Johnny Sexton could make a surprising comeback in the 2024 Six Nations tournament as part of a reshuffling of the Irish rugby team. Ireland’s Rugby World Cup run ended on a disappointing note, falling short against the All Blacks in the quarterfinals.

Despite a challenging group stage battle against reigning World Champions South Africa and dominant victories over Scotland, Tonga, and Romania, Ireland once again found themselves exiting the competition in the quarterfinals. It was evident, however, that they were among the top four teams at the tournament.

Ireland’s robust defense was widely praised, but their highly organized attacking strategy didn’t always receive the recognition it deserved. Under the guidance of backs coach Mike Catt and head coach Andy Farrell, Ireland’s offensive game became one of the most potent in World Rugby over the past three years.

Although there were initial struggles as players adapted to new structures, the attacking game continued to improve each year under Catt, a former England international and 2003 World Cup winner.

Now, it seems that Catt is on the verge of leaving his role with the national team. Reports from the Irish media indicate that the 52-year-old has already relocated his family to England and is likely to step down, although there is a possibility he might be involved in the 2024 Six Nations.

Additionally, there are indications that recently retired Ireland captain Johnny Sexton could quickly transition into a role within Andy Farrell’s coaching staff. Sexton had not initially considered coaching, but he didn’t rule it out either, stating, “Never say never, you never know what life is going to throw at you.

It wouldn’t be my immediate plan to coach, especially with former teammates from the past few years.” If Sexton does decide to venture into coaching, it would be a significant acquisition for Farrell as a direct replacement for Catt.
