Forest Green Rovers manager issues his honest verdict amid Barrow clash…

“We’ve advanced one place in the rankings without even playing, but our primary aim is to climb based on our own on-field performances,” stated Forest Green Rovers manager David Horseman as his team prepared to host Barrow.

After a postponed game on Saturday, Rovers are now back in action. Horseman expressed his admiration for Barrow, emphasizing that they are a highly intriguing team, currently holding the 15th position in League Two after 13 matches.

He praised Barrow’s coaching both defensively and offensively, highlighting their strong defensive organization, pressing strategies, and their ability to quickly involve their forward players. He also noted their effectiveness from set-plays and credited their well-drilled team to their manager.

The postponement of the game against Mansfield over the weekend had a silver lining as it allowed Rovers to avoid further player injuries. They managed to use this time to prepare and work on countering Barrow’s strengths.

Horseman also pointed out that the postponed game was beneficial for certain players like Callum Morton, Fankaty Dabo, and Jacob Maddox, as they would have been at risk playing in quick succession.

Despite moving out of the relegation zone due to other results in League Two, Horseman stressed the team’s goal of climbing the rankings through their own performances.

Charlie McCann’s return from international duty provided additional options for the team, especially with his passing ability.

However, deciding the starting lineup would be a tough choice considering the competition among players like Harvey Bunker and Jacob Maddox. Jordon Garrick and Jordan Moore-Taylor were expected to be involved in the next game.

Looking at the history of matches between Forest Green Rovers and Barrow, they have seen two wins for Barrow, one draw, and one victory for Rovers in the Football League.

The two teams have faced each other several times in the National League, with Rovers’ only win against the Bluebirds occurring during their league-winning season, led by former boss Mark Cooper, in a 2-0 victory where Matty Stevens scored a brace.
