John Mousinho has disclosed Portsmouth’s current position regarding the 22-year-old player, Josh Martin, who has been on an extended trial with the club.

Portsmouth has decided not to sign Josh Martin at this time. However, they will allow him to continue training with the team. The club has been accommodating Martin, who has been a free agent since his release from Norwich City, by giving him the opportunity to train with their squad, considering his recent presence in the area.

Mousinho, the Portsmouth boss, has clarified their stance after his prolonged period of training with the club. He stated that they won’t be signing Martin for now. Nevertheless, they welcome him to continue training with their squad to maintain his fitness as he waits for his next opportunity. Mousinho spoke highly of the 22-year-old winger and didn’t rule out a potential move in the future. Still, the current plan is not to sign him permanently.

Mousinho expressed, “As long as Josh wants to train with us, he is welcome to do so. It’s always with an eye if anything changes for us, but also to keep him ticking over should anyone else want to come in and swoop. Hopefully not one of our rivals, but he’s a really good kid and if there is something out there for him and nothing opens up here, then I’m sure he will do well somewhere.”

He added, “We want to be sensible and will always bring players in if we feel it’s necessary, but, at the moment, the balance of the squad is quite good. I’ve not ruled it out, you never know what’s going to change with injuries or suspensions. I wouldn’t rule it out, but, at the same time, we aren’t looking to add anything to the squad at the moment.”

As for Martin’s future, he may continue training with Portsmouth to maintain his fitness, but the chances of securing a deal with the club appear slim unless there’s a sudden shortage of wingers. It seems more likely that he will find a new club outside of Fratton Park, considering his experience in the Championship and League One. His time spent maintaining his fitness with Portsmouth should benefit his prospects of joining a new team.

While Portsmouth won’t make a move soon, Mousinho did acknowledge the possibility of signing a winger in January, depending on their circumstances at that time. If Martin remains without a club and there’s a need for another wide option, he could be considered as a potential addition.
