An overview of how the players who were released by Swindon Town during the summer and how they are faring since their departure…

Swindon Town has emerged as one of the most entertaining teams in League Two this season. Currently positioned sixth in the league, they’ve managed to score an impressive 29 goals in just 12 games, including three instances where they netted five or more goals.

This is a stark contrast to the previous season, during which they found the back of the net only 61 times in the entire 2022/23 league campaign

. They are now on track to almost double that figure, which can be attributed to significant changes in their squad composition. Swindon let go of eight players at the end of the previous season and the replacements they brought in have performed admirably.

But what has become of those former Robins players, and how are they currently faring?

  1. Williams, a key figure in Swindon’s 2022/23 squad, contributed significantly in the attacking third, accumulating 23 goals and assists combined over his two League Two seasons with the club. He also managed to stay relatively injury-free, which had been a concern throughout his career. After departing from Swindon, he joined Gillingham in the fourth tier. However, his playing time has been less guaranteed, and he has yet to register any goals or assists in the league.
  2. Cian Harries, the Welsh defender, had limited appearances during his time with Swindon, featuring in just three out of 46 league games, with two of them as starts. A move away from Swindon was mutually beneficial, and he is now playing for Aldershot in the National League, where he has scored two penalties in the last three games.
  3. Morgan Roberts, a 22-year-old attacking midfielder, arrived at Swindon last summer for an undisclosed fee. However, he didn’t make any appearances for Swindon and was loaned out to Aldershot in February of the same year, where he also saw limited playing time. Since his release, he has joined Brackley Town.
  4. Harry Parsons went through a series of non-league loans last season and ended up in non-league football after being released. He had temporary spells with Banbury, Chippenham Town, and Farnborough, eventually joining Maidenhead United in the National League in the summer.
  5. Mo Dabre, an Italian player, barely saw any action in Swindon’s red kit during his time at the club. He made two appearances in the Football League Trophy last season, playing every minute in games against Crystal Palace under-21s and Plymouth Argyle. The 20-year-old joined Chelmsford City in the summer.
  6. George Cowmeadow, a 19-year-old product of Swindon’s academy system, made the transition to the first team last summer but failed to make a league appearance for the club. Despite various stints with non-league clubs throughout the 2022/23 campaign, he hasn’t managed to secure a team after being released.
  7. Oscar Massey, also 19 years old, followed a similar path to Cowmeadow. He moved up from the youth team to the first team last summer, had loan spells with different clubs across English football’s tiers, and has struggled to find a permanent club since his release from Swindon.
