Portsmouth’s current success, led by John Mousinho, owes a lot to the exceptional performance of striker Colby Bishop.

Bishop, who joined the club from Accrington Stanley in the summer of 2022, has really elevated his game under Mousinho’s leadership.

Since his arrival, Bishop has scored 32 goals in 66 games for Portsmouth, including eight in 12 this season.

Mousinho’s managerial style has propelled Portsmouth to the top of the League One table, and they are on an impressive unbeaten run that dates back to March.

Bishop was already in good form under the previous manager, Danny Cowley, but he has continued to shine under Mousinho. He recently shared the advice Mousinho gave him when he took over in January.

According to Bishop, Mousinho instructed him to play in the same way he had played against Mousinho during his time at Oxford United.

Bishop explained that Mousinho wanted him to stay in the box and focus on what he does best – scoring goals. This approach has boosted Bishop’s confidence.

Portsmouth has a promising season ahead, and they are living up to their preseason expectations as promotion contenders.

Their successful summer recruitment, coupled with Bishop’s significant contributions, bodes well for their promotion hopes.

If promotion to the higher division doesn’t materialize, there’s a strong belief that Bishop could make the jump to the Championship, marking a remarkable journey from non-league football to one of Europe’s most competitive leagues, considering his early departure from Notts County.
